Reducing Electricity Use

1. Buy energy efficient products when replacing old products.

2. Bring daylight into your home or business.

3. Weatherize properly.

4. Plant shade trees and build rain gardens.

5. Set washers and dryers on warm or cold.

6. Unplug appliances not in use.

7. Clean and replace furnace and AC air filters.

8. Use CFL or LED lights, and be mindful to turn them off.

9. Let computers "hibernate", turn off screend when not in use.

10. Use a programmable thermostat and set the temp low in winter high in summer.


When you support our green power generators through your participation, we all share the gains.

1. Decide your impact. Find the number of kilowatt (kWh) consumed on your electric bill.  Often you can request multiple months from your utility on line as well, to get the average monthly usage.
2. Do what you can to reduce your electricity use.  Take a few minutes to think of some ways you can lower the number of kWh consumed.
3. Decide what percentage of your energy use you would like to offset.
For example, if your home uses 676 kwh on average per month, and you'd like 75% of it to be green powered, you would enter 507 kWh below. 
4. Purchase REpower Now credits today. Each block of renewable energy equals 1000kWh of consumption. 

REpower Now households pay just 2.5 cents per kWh to make sure the electricity they use comes from clean green generators in their local communities.

The Johnsons use about 6,000 kWh (6 MWh) of electricity per year and want to offset 50% of their consumption.
Each Household REpower Credit is equal to 300kWh.  Their family contributes $100 for the whole year, happy in the knowlege that half of their electricity is offset with local, independent, clean electricity in the same region where the Johnsons live.
